When designing, you're supposed to draw as efficiently as possible. But sometimes you need to change it up and take your time making sure you follow your passion, having fun and not only pleasing others.

It has rightly been said by fashion gurus that year 2010 is and will continue to be an interesting and exciting year for fashion. With the end of the global financial crisis and recession trend, an upheaval in the fashion world was seen in the beginning of the year and this is continuing.

this is perfect, but I'd like to know what type of marker pad you use, or prefer ..A3 or A4
and how do you present these designs with such colors and clear background, is it an application or what ..
could you tell me what should I do as a beginner ?
thanks in advance

Hi, Nada! Thank you for your kind words. I draw on A4. Pantone paper called letraset paper and pantone markers are the best, but often I use pantone on normal paper too. I start by drawing with a micropoint pencil, then color with pantone markers and the last step is doing an outline with a black micropoint marker. I don’t always do the black outline though. Then I scann the drawing and adjust the contrast and light to make the white paper look properly white, because it often look a little grey when you scan it. Then I use photoshop or a drawing program to erase any stains that might be on the paper. And that’s it :-)
Also, often in fashion drawing you make a body base that you once you figure out your personal drawing style, and then you put the fresh paper on top of that and trace the body and and draw the clothes on that, so that every model looks the same, if that’s the look you’re going for. This is to save time and be efficient when you design the clothes. So, fashion illustration and illustration has two different end goals. Fashion illustration is mostly about the clothes, so the model drawing is usually the same to make it efficient. You do these kind of drawings when you design, and then you also have to make technical drawings/flat drawings which is to show how to make the clothes and all the details. Technical drawings are very accurate and done using rulers and often adobe illustrator to make it clean and easy to understand for the person sewing the clothes and making the pattern. For fashion designers understanding pattern making, sewing, is important. The most important thing is being good at technical drawing/flat drawing and fabric and button boards and so on, and then fashion illustration. Lots of fashion designers aren’t great drawers, so feel free to be creative and make it your own style. The design is the most important.

If you want to be a fashion illustrator, the drawing and being able to free hand well and do textures and effects and so on the most important. If fashion illustration is your goal, using letraset paper, pantone markers or similar, pencil drawing is important to master. They also draw using computer programs. I use photoshop and adobe illustrator, but there are others often used too. There are apps for i pads and drawing pads (for non touch screen), electic pencils for touch screen computer drawing that are important to master too. You can find free or cheap programs too. You usually master drawing naturalistic before you focus on personal style drawing. Either way, doing both is helpful.

I hope this helps!

OH! Also, for some of the drawings I use A3 letraset paper. Illustrators often draw big and then it is scaled down when scanner and printed for whatever it it used for.

I am not a fashion student nor a designer. But what I see in those sketches really make me want to learn the art of designing clothes. Super love the drawings, this site is such an inspiration for me. Your designs are combined with the trendy and classy fashion these days. I can see those textures are really smooth. A for the effort in making a sketch like this. Would love to see a lot of your sketches, what an inspiration!

ETHICAL AND PERSONALIZED STYLE, FOR A "GOOD FOR YOU" WARDROBE.

Idealist style is a website and "slow blog" dedicated to ethical fashion and personalized style, including tips on how to find your very own "slow fashion" style by using color analysis, the body types system, and other slow fashion tips.»

    Very nerdy about it.

I decided to name my page "Idealist Style", because I'm an idealist. On both a creative. environmental, and a humanitarian level. So, I feel the title suits my message well.
