The Vase is the most elegant body type, and the signature features are big boobs, gently curving longer waist, hips equal tits, slim thighs and legs. They can also have a bit chunky upper arms.

A curvy peep toe shoe is your best look. Flat shoes are not your best friend, so try to always wear a little bit of heal or a small wedge. Think curvy shoes.

Accessories should echo the shape you are, and rounded earrings flatters your round curves. Choose a rounded soft bag. You don't suit square or angular jewelry/ accessories.
Keep your hairstyle long of full, so your head doesn't look small in comparison to your big boobs and chunky upper arms. The Vase needs strong shapes and clear lines, and your best look is the classic style. Make sure your clothing is well tailored and fitted to enhance your lovely curves. Think Hollywood glamour or retro style.
Be careful with heavy pattern and prints. If you must, keep it small, but color blocking or mono coloring is better on you.
Make sure to have a supportive bra or structured bikini top or (halter-neck), to keep your boobs up and at it's best.

Scoop neckline top. Keep your sweaters and tops elastic or fitted to follow your curves and keep your look soft.
Picture
Square neckline top. Wide neck-openings are good for balancing your heavy chest. Also apply to sweaters.
Picture
Wide V-neckline top fitted under boobs. Fitted under boobs is good for those with tummy issues.
Picture
Fitted top/shirt with "puffed" sleeves, is very forgiving for your upper arms.
Picture
Fitted vest over tops, shirts and sweaters are good for showing of your slender waist.

Fitted shirt with cropped sleeves.

Jersey hold in tight dress. Arm-covering sleeves, square neckline and pencil skirt.

Fitted dress with "puffed" cropped sleeves, for maximum upper arm coverage.

Shirt style retro dress. Cropped sleeves, rounded lapel, fitted at waist, with slightly flared skirt.

Sweetheart neckline, pencil skirt dress in a classic style.

Hold-in classic cut dress with a wide neckline.

Hold-in classic cut dress with a long pencil skirt. Your perfect dress should cling to your bottom, boobs and waist.

Puffed sleeve, wide V-neck fitted dress with straight skirt.

Hold-in classic cut dress with an open keyhole-neckline to break up the chest. Mermaid style skirt.

Elastic top top with high-waisted pencil skirt. Belts in the waist are good to highlight your tiny middle.

Fitted jacket and a pencil skirt.

Trousers with slanted pockets and big belt loops.

High-waisted well fitted pants.

Straight legged jeans. You have a perfect jeans body.

Puffed sleeves are very feminine and the vase is all about being feminine.

All your jackets (blazers, cardigans and outdoors jackets and coats) should be fitted.

I'm struggling to decide whether I'm a vase or a column. I'm fine-boned, so don't have upper arm weight. I'm 5'8" and my measurements are 38-31-40, but my bust is all at the front (36 F). My legs are long. My shoulders and hips are about the same width front on but my bum is pretty flat (partly posture maybe, I tend towards the opposite of a sway back, whatever that would be called). When I gain wait it's mostly all over, though not so much the neck/arms/collar area. I also have a small head.
Lots of that suggests column, but I'm short-waisted. The usual column advice to belt things in just makes me look wide round the middle, which is a bit wobbly after 47 years and two children.

I do best with square necks and sweetheart necklines, and Ok with v-necks and some scoops if they're not too wide. I can't do peplums or anything with waist gathers or hip detail or I look bottom-heavy, and high-waisted trousers make me look unbalanced. Shirts tucked into trousers are a disaster: the waist is too high, and tucking in puts on more weight round the middle.
Overall I think I do best with flat-fronted pants (straight or bootleg). Knits, or fitted tops with princess or vertical seams, not bust darts, that sit on the high hipline. Collar detail is good, but being careful about not swamping my small face. But still seeking further direction or things I hadn't considered.

Any tips, or body shape suggestions? I don't have narrow shoulders, but they're definitely not wide either, which rules out a bunch of body types.

Hi, Lute! Sorry for taking so long to reply.
It actually sounds like you're more of a Brick, as they can seem a lot like a Column, but have more of a long legs look. They also have heavier built legs, that still look slender if slender. It's more of an overall look thing. A Brick can have a softer look sometimes, and I call that a Soft Brick. Eva Longoria is an example of that, except she's shorter than you, so imagine a stretched out version.
So more than Vase or Column that have longer waist, you sound a bit more like a soft Brick. Also what you like to wear sounds more in that direction. 36 F is also a larger chest size, and even though soft Bricks can have larger chests too, it could also mean Lollipop or Goblet. However, since you haven't thought in that direction, perhaps you seem a lot more balanced, and less top heavy. And that would bring us back to the soft Brick.
You could still be a Vase or a Column, but if clothes meant for those types don't work for you it usually means that's not your type.

So, check out the Brick, and let me know if that's not a fit either and we'll dig some more.

I hope this helped!

im trying to figure out whether im an hourglass, vase, or something else??? im 5'2, and i have a big bust, a small waist, a small bottom but my thighs are wide so theyre proportional to my bust. i typically wear fitted shirts with high-waisted, wide pants, and it SEEMS to flatter my figure but because i have a short waist my entire top half is basically my boobs and then the rest of my body is pants (which is good because it elongates my legs and makes my bottom look big while giving the illusion of slim thighs under wide pants but also bad because..my entire top half is just my bust). wearing tight-fitting pants (for eg skinny jeans) looks weird because my thighs are wider than my calves, and wearing loose-fitting shirts makes my waist lose all definition and because of my large bust i look just heavier all-around. so i don't really know what type i am!
thank you so much!!!!

Hi, Lily! From what you're describing starting with the short waist, it doesn't seem like you're a Vase. Given the big bust, short and small waist, not large bum, but large thighs, I would say I think either Skittle or Cello sounds most likely. In that order. This depends on in you have broad shoulders or slender or heavy lower legs. As the Cello has slender lower legs compared to the rest of the body, and a broad back. The Skittle has not wide shoulders and heavier lower legs. But the legs also depends on overall body weight, is it can be not as visible in thinner Skittles, and more visible the more weight gain. Other options for this also depending on these factors, would be Brick, but like a soft version so not as typical. Or the Goblet. Again, all of these mentioned have a broader back/winder shoulders, except the Skittle. And Skittle and Brick have heavier lower legs. It should also all be more of a in comparison to your overall measurements, and not compared to others.
For big busts and short waist, it's usually best to avoid broad belts that eat your entire waist. Also open necklines and fitted tops are great.

Check out these four, as I think one of those could be a match. Also, if everything fits, and especially on what suits you. Go with that type, as that's what matters most. It's just as normal to not have a 100% match with everything listed, as there is to do match with it all. As there can be many variations of each type too. If stuck, try on the different good and bad looks, and see what works and what doesn't. And that should help you pin it down.

I hope this helped narrow down the search for you.

Hello!

I could not tell if I’m a brick or a vase. Im 5’4” and my measurements are 38-33-39. I wear 34DD bra and arms are chunky. My shoulders are narrow with long slender neck. My hips are straight on the sides and curvy on the back. I don’t carry back fat or love handles and have slender back. But I do carry slight weight on my tummy and most on my arms and boobs. I have a longer torso and shorter limbs. Legs and thighs are not slim, but are strong and shapely. I look better on boatneck than on v necks. I look better on fitted clothes than swing or boxy dresses.
Thank you!
