The Cornet shape resemble an upside down triangle, where the shoulders are broad, boobs are usually small, straight waist, slim hips and long, slender legs. The Cornet can struggle with feeling masculine, but don't forget that this athletic shape has many advantages that must not be neglected. After all the Cornet is the Supermodel figure.
The Cornet figure needs dramatic materials, cuts and details to keep up with it's own dramatic lines (Chiffon fabric is feminine but dramatic). Angular shapes, asymmetric cuts, diagonal lines, draping materials, pinstripes and pattern/prints breaks up your figure and balance the drama. Interesting details bounces the focus, to keep your body from being overpowered by the prominent shoulders.
Skinny jeans are great on you, and light and bright colors on your bottom half is very flattering. Fitted hip length jackets and cropped pants are great on you, since you don't need to elongate your legs.
Picture
Delicate shaped, slim-heeled shoes are your most flattering shoe style, because it doesn't overwhelm your slim calves and ankles. The interesting detail (or color) draws attention to your fantastic legs.

Wide scoop-neck tank top with broad shoulder straps. The broad straps breaks up your shoulder width, because it cuts them in two places, making the shoulders less prominent.

Fitted wide V-neck T-shirt.
Breaks up your top half and draws the focus to your chest.
Picture
Asymmetric wrap top with full length sleeves, creates interesting cuts and angles to break up your top half.

Wide V-neck sweater with fitted full length arms.
NB! Cropped sleeves does not flatter your arms, and can make you look like a gorilla.
Picture
Wide lapel blouse with (either puffed sleeves, t-shirt arms or) full length sleeves. The print breaks up your top half.
Picture
Big collars and large lapels are flattering. The Cornet can pull it of because of their long neck.
Picture
Wide lapel fitted shirt with double cuff. Remember to keep your sleeves really short of full length. Don't fall for the temptation to push your sleeves up to three-quarter length. It doesn't flatter your figure, and will make your arms massive.

Picture
Pencil dress with pinstripes and angular shoulders. Pinstripes emphasize waist and spread the focus.
Picture
Diamond-shaped neckline with shoulder length sleeves, narrowing and balancing the shoulders, and a fluted skirt.
Picture
Full flare skirt and a wide but open neckline, balance broad shoulders and creates curves.

Draping jersey dress creates curves in all the right places, and hides any tummy issue.

Regular waist pencil skirt shows of the long legs. The waist-cut on the hipbone widens the hips.

Picture
Straight legged pants and skinny Jeans are your best friends, and best in light and bright colors. For everyday use go for white, beige, gray or blue.
Lighter colors on your bottom half and darker colors up top flatters the Cornet figure.
Picture
Cigarette pants show off your long legs, and not many body types can pull them off quite like the Cornet does.
Picture
Cropped pants show off your lovely ankles, and breaks up your long legs.
Any crop-style goes. Shorts, knee-length and ankle cut.

Picture
Jackets, blazers and cardigans are better than sweaters, because they break up your top half. Fitted is the best style.
Picture
Wrap cardigan. Perforable fitted at waist. Make sure the arms somewhat fitted.
Picture
Wide lapel cardigan. The wide lapel balance the shoulders. Make sure the arms are fitted, and that it's not to bulky in the waist area.

Picture
Horizontal pinstripes emphasize the waist and break up your limited shape. Big pockets on hips enhances curves.
Picture
Single button blazer with full length sleeves. Hip length (so your legs don't look too long).

This is the best site I've seen for inspiration for the cornet figure type.
Thanks

if i were (somehow in sci-fi land) the biological child of Naomi & Tyra...i'd tell you, i get my skin tone, thin arms, narrow hips, small round booty and long shapely legs from my mommy Naomi and my big 38Ds & skinny ankles from my mommy Tyra.

i'm currently 38 - 34 - 36 at 5' 10" (i've lost 25 lbs thus far this yr).
i feel like my i am cornet b/c of my narrow hips & long legs w/ a splash of lollipop with my big boobs alot like Uma.
there are also great waist defining ideas in 'goblet - your best looks' that i can apply whilst i'm reducing my middle.
thanx for posting this, it's an immense help especially for dressing comfortably and confidently being tall w/ a large rack. lol :)

how well does this apply if you don't have long legs?

Hi, Katie. Even though most Cornets does have long legs, I know of many who don't. My cousin is a Cornet with shorter legs, so her challenge is to balance out the broadness of the shoulders, to avoid a too dramatic triangle shape and too much focus up top. She has to be extra careful to remember to show of her narrow parts up top (arms, chest, waist, back), so it doesn't steal away from the always gorgeous (shorter) Cornet legs. If properly highlighted, a Cornet will always have an amazing body figure.

In short, you have to be even more attentive to the Cornet rules than a long legged Cornet, because the shorter legs easily can make your triangle shape look unbalanced. Basically, just make sure to keep everything on your upper body in fitted styles, and make sure to show off your legs. Use clothing to show what you got and help divide your upper body into separate areas, but don't cover up. Bulgy clothing is your worst fashion enemy.

I hope this answered your question :-)

I have been worried so much about my broad shoulders and small boobs ..dressing has been a nightmare cz I love crop tops and spageti* tops and I always end up looking masculine ..I thought there was no hope for me if you are to add in the fact that am not that tall 5'4" so no long legs to aid
but I hope with this tips my nightmare will be over
I also feel better knowing there are more people like me out there

Hi, Savannah! I'm so happy I could help, and yes, you are not alone. Knowing you body type is a life changing thing, as it helps you understand that there is nothing wrong with you, but rather the clothes. I really hope you start figuring out how to best flatter your figure. My cousin has the same body type and same height, so you are definitely not the only one.

You are very welcome, and the best of luck to you.

Hi!

Does these rules apply if one gets a bit heavier than example ladies here? I do think I'm a cornet (at least in my teen years I was..) but nowadays I have fuller thighs and a bit tummy (having a baby takes its toll..). My hips are nevertheless narrower than my shoulders and my ankles and calves are slim. It's just those few parts of me that have gotten fuller, yet I couldn't say I'm pear shaped or anything that full down waist.

Thanks for your help!

Hi, Dina. Yes, I think it still applies. I have some friends that are Cornets with more on their bodies that the stereotypical Cornet look. It is actually quite typical for the top heavy types (and most women in general) to get more of a belly with age or after babies. I would also look at the Goblet and see if that fits also, at least if you have a larger chest now. These two types have a lot in common, so it's worth to take a look. I can't think of a fuller size Cornet celeberty at the moment, but Amy Schumer, Rene Zellweger (in the Bridget Jones movies), and Elisabeth Moss (some of the seasons of Mad Men, are some Goblets with a little more on their bones.

I hope this helped :-)

This is soooo helpful! For a long time, I wasn't sure what my body shape was--I thought maybe I was an inverted triangle, but that body shape seems to focus on a bigger bust, as opposed to small busted and broad shoulders and I couldn't seem to find good tips on how to balance out my proportions. Now it all makes sense! Thanks so much for this article!!

Hi, Bryn. Thank you so much for that lovely feedback! I'm so glad it was helpful to you. Ps! The inverted triangle sounds like the Goblet, or a mix of Goblet and Cornet.

I stumbled across your website recently whilst trying to find my body type and I don't think I fit well in any of the categories. I love your descriptions and the fact that you take into account more body types already but i'm still not sure I fit
I wonder if you can help? My current measurements are

Shoulder 106cm/42"
Bust 84cm/ 33"
Waist 74cm/29"
Hip 101cm/40"

And I am 178cm/5'10" tall. I am a little over my ideal weight after Christmas and currently trying to lose around 3-4kg. Those will come off my hips and thighs where I gain weight, so can look to lose around 1 inch or so off my hip measurement. My lower legs are very very slim. My torso and legs are balanced proportionally length wise. If I didn't take my shoulders into account I would be a pear shape. My boobs are very small and flat and my shoulders are wide due to my bone structure not muscle, I'm just naturally very wide there. No fat or muscle there either. Very slim and skinny on upper arms. I don't have a very defined waist, it seems more straight down.

I have noticed that I look good in horizontal stripes, boat necks, cowl necks and bodycon type dresses. I also oddly think off the shoulder tops look good which they shouldn't on wide shouldered people...I really don't look good in things that try make me have a waist like peplum as it accentuates the hips too much. I do like the boyish silhouette, rather like an editorial model.

Oh my gosh, these are my exact measurements, except I'm a cm taller with a 27.5 inch waist and 39 inch hip circumference. And my boobs are also small. My shoulders are that wide too cause of my bone structure and not fat or muscle.
